Open Educational Resources in artistic and design education

The +dimensions team consists of artistic researchers and lecturers, from various disciplines at the art school. Since the project's inception, they have been actively involved in teaching, accompanying main projects, and organizing their own seminars or workshops.

One goal of the project is to make selected content from this teaching available as Open Educational Resources (OER) to other educators – exemplarily from each discipline. The focus is on experimental approaches, as there are currently only a few OER examples in the field of artistic and design education. These disciplines are highly practice-oriented, with hands-on courses often requiring individual guidance – which is difficult to represent with open materials. Artistic and design education is also an iterative process based on repetition, reflection, and gradual improvement. It is project-based and context-dependent, meaning that content evolves rapidly and is difficult to replicate exactly.

Therefore, the central question is: Which content from the teaching context can be meaningfully prepared and made available to other educators? Here, not only the "what" but also the "how" plays a crucial role, as the disciplines, media, and methods are very diverse – ranging from analog techniques to digital programs.

In this context, the artistic staff followed an experimental approach and a conscious process of discovery to determine which content could be usefully shared. As a result, insights into didactic preparations, collections of theoretical and historical resources as impulses for further teaching development, as well as selected methods and instructions for using software, emerged.
